bringing the outdoors in…
The moment I walked into this cozy home in Black Forest, Colorado, I felt such a spark of excitement. The homeowner had just decided to turn it into an Airbnb and knew it needed a little extra love and design to really make it stand out. Right away, I was in. Not just because the house had great bones and potential, but because it’s actually just up the road from where I grew up—so the nostalgia hit me instantly.
This house has such a cool, rustic charm. A lot of the details were actually handcrafted by the homeowner, which made it feel super personal and unique. You could tell the place was full of memories, and I wanted to design something that would honor that. Homes should be a space where we feel most at peace—where we can be our real, true selves. That was the vibe I wanted to keep throughout the project.
From the start, my vision was to bring the outdoors in. I spent time walking the property, collecting dried plants, a giant tree root, and even found some quirky treasures in the garage. All of those pieces made it into the final design, which made the space feel even more connected to its surroundings.
To balance the rustic elements, we mixed in a modern, simple style—something that feels fresh but still cozy and grounded. It’s all about creating a space that feels natural, balanced, and just comfortable to be in.
